Product / Spend Explorer

Move from a cost change to the owner behind it.

Understand a spending change without separating the answer from its bill. Compare periods, follow daily movement and inspect the dimensions the source actually supplies.

Begin with a comparison you can explain.

Choose a source, date range, currency and cost basis, then compare matched periods. Keeping the same scope makes it easier to distinguish a recurring pattern from a change that needs attention.

Follow the movement

Review daily cost alongside the comparison period. Find when the change began before moving into its contributing services, projects or accounts. A partial reporting window remains visible as partial.

Find the contributing dimensions

Rank source-backed drivers, then narrow the investigation with the account, project, service, SKU, resource or tag dimensions available in the report.

Dimension coverage varies by source. A missing resource or tag stays unavailable; it is not assigned to an inferred owner.

Keep the explanation repeatable

Carry the selected dates, source, filters, comparison and panels into Saved Views. The next review starts with the same definition, while current reporting coverage stays visible.

Product / Spend Explorer / Amortized basis

Understand amortized cost in its reporting context.

An amortized view spreads eligible commitment charges across their reported benefit period. It is a different view of the bill, available only where the source supplies it.

Compare like with like.

Use amortized cost to review the period to which a commitment applies, rather than assuming its purchase date tells the whole story. Keep the source, scope and currency unchanged when comparing periods.

Read the source coverage

The provider defines which charges and adjustments appear in its amortized reporting. Azure can supply an amortized alternative through its cost reporting; other sources have their own supported bases.

Check source reporting scope before treating this view as available for every bill.

Keep the alternatives separate

Amortized and net views can describe the same charges differently. Their difference is not a savings result, and their totals are not combined.

Return to the original analysis when the question concerns the charges reported for that period.

Product / Spend Explorer / List basis

Read list cost as a reference basis.

List cost reflects source-supplied reference prices or a qualified usage-to-list-price view. It is distinct from billed, negotiated or net cost.

Use the basis that matches the question.

A list view can help review the reference value of reported usage. An invoice review needs the appropriate billed or net basis instead. Keep the label visible wherever the figure is used.

Respect the source definition

List-cost coverage depends on the source. A source-supplied reference-price view is not an invoice or contracted-cost statement. Use only the bases the source reporting supports.

Do not turn a difference into a result

A gap between list and billed cost is not proof of savings achieved by PruneFox. List, net and amortized views remain separate, with their own coverage and currency.
